Nurturing Our Emerging Nature
INTRODUCTION
One common misconception about the Divine Love Path is that once we begin sincerely praying for God’s Love, life will become a continuous experience of peace, joy, and bliss.
Certainly, there are moments when this is true. There are periods when the inflowing Love of God fills the soul with a deep sense of peace, gratitude, and connection. These experiences can be profound and life-changing.
Yet, anyone who has walked this path for any length of time soon discovers another reality. The journey is not simply about experiencing bliss. It is about transformation.
TRANSFORMATION & THE EMERGING NATURE
But transformation is not merely about eliminating faults or overcoming weaknesses. It is about the gradual emergence of a new nature within the soul.
As Divine Love enters and transforms the soul’s substance, qualities such as compassion, humility, trust, and Love begin to awaken. Compassion grows where judgment once lived. Humility softens pride. Trust begins replacing fear. Love gradually replaces separation.
This emerging nature is a gift of God’s Love, yet it also needs nurturing. Through our daily choices, attitudes, and willingness to engage honestly with ourselves, we can support the growth of these qualities. In many ways, the spiritual journey becomes an ongoing process of nurturing our emerging nature—cooperating with the transformation that God’s Love is already accomplishing within us.
THE LAW OF COMPENSATION
Human beings are remarkably creative when it comes to avoiding pain. We distract ourselves, justify our actions, blame others, suppress emotions, or seek comfort in countless ways. Yet the pain we experience is often not our enemy. More often, it is a messenger pointing to something within us that is out of harmony with the laws governing creation.
The laws of creation are immutable. They operate whether we acknowledge them or not. Just as physical laws govern the material universe, spiritual laws govern the condition and progression of the soul.
One of these laws is the Law of Compensation. Simply stated, we reap what we sow.
Every thought, intention, action, and choice carries consequences. Loving actions bear loving results. Unloving actions create conditions that eventually return to us as opportunities for learning, correction, and growth. This is not punishment. It is the natural outcome of living either in harmony or disharmony with the laws of creation.
There is no arbitrary judgment imposed by an angry deity. Rather, the soul experiences the effects of its own condition. Whatever darkness, error, or disharmony exists within us must eventually be brought into our awareness so it can be understood, felt, and released.
The Law of Compensation operates perfectly according to the condition of the soul.
When we act in harmony with love, truth, compassion, humility, and kindness, we experience greater harmony and light. When we act out of fear, pride, selfishness, resentment, or other forms of disharmony, we eventually encounter the consequences of those choices.
The Law of Compensation ensures that every soul ultimately learns from its own creations.
The Law of Compensation serves an important purpose. Through its operation, the soul comes to recognize the consequences of its choices, learns from its experiences, and gradually sheds those conditions that are out of harmony with love.
In this way, the law assists in restoring the soul to the pure and harmonious condition in which it was originally created.
THE DIVINE LOVE TRANSFORMATION
Yet God has made available a gift that extends beyond restoration alone.
While every soul experiences the operation of the Law of Compensation, the transforming influence of Divine Love becomes active within the soul when it is sincerely sought and received. As Divine Love enters the soul, it gradually dissolves the fears, errors, selfishness, and wounds that give rise to disharmony in the first place.
In this sense, Divine Love does not set aside the Law of Compensation. Rather, it removes the very causes upon which that law must operate. As the soul is transformed through the inflowing Love of God, there is progressively less within it that requires correction through the operation of compensatory law.
As Divine Love transforms the soul, a new nature begins to emerge—one increasingly reflective of the Divine Love it has received.
The Divine Love Path reveals the possibility of transformation through the inflowing Essence of God—a gift capable of changing the very substance of the soul and awakening within it a new and Divine nature.
The Divine Love of God is not simply a perfected form of human love. It is the transformative Substance of God that enters the soul and changes its very nature.
Through sincere longing and prayer, the soul receives this Divine Essence. As this Love accumulates within, it gradually transforms the soul from its natural condition into something Divine.
This transformation does not simply cover over sin or erase mistakes as though they never existed. Rather, Divine Love works much more deeply. It reaches into the very roots of our disharmony and begins dissolving the causes themselves.
The tendencies toward selfishness, fear, anger, judgment, and separation are gradually removed. What once generated suffering begins to lose its power.
In this way, Divine Love does not suspend the operation of Divine Law. Rather, it transforms the soul so that there is progressively less within us for the Law of Compensation to address. As Divine Love grows within the soul, the foundation from which unloving thoughts and actions arise is slowly replaced by a new nature—one aligned with God’s Love.
OLD PATTERNS & NEW AWARENESS
This process, however, is rarely instantaneous.
Even as the substance of Divine Love enters the soul, old habits, beliefs, emotional wounds, and patterns of behaviour may continue to operate. We may find ourselves reacting in familiar ways, making the same mistakes, or struggling with emotions we thought we had already overcome.
Many people become discouraged at this stage. They assume that because old patterns still arise, little progress has been made. Yet one of the clearest signs of transformation is not necessarily that the pattern has completely disappeared, but that our relationship to it has changed.
Before receiving Divine Love, we may react from our wounds unconsciously and justify our behaviour. As the soul is transformed, something new begins to emerge. We become more aware, less defensive, and more willing to see ourselves truthfully.
We begin to develop compassion toward the very wounds and habitual patterns that once controlled us.
THE COEXISTENCE OF WOUND & TRANSFORMATION
In this way, both sides of the coin can be functioning simultaneously.
The old pattern may still be active, arising from conditions that have not yet been fully healed. At the same time, Divine Love is cultivating new qualities within the soul—humility, compassion, patience, understanding, and self-honesty.
A person may still experience anger, but now feels genuine remorse when it occurs.
A person may still experience fear, but now has a growing desire to trust.
A person may still judge another, but quickly recognizes the lack of love in that judgment and feels compassion instead.
The wound and the transformation coexist for a time.
The presence of the wound is not evidence that Divine Love is absent. Often, the growing compassion with which we meet the wound is evidence that Divine Love is already at work.
NURTURING OUR EMERGING NATURE
This is where nurturing our emerging nature becomes important.
The inflowing Love of God performs the transformative work, but we are not passive observers. We have the gift of free will and the opportunity to cooperate with what is unfolding within us.
Each day presents opportunities to nurture the qualities that Divine Love is awakening.
When we become aware of impatience, we can choose patience.
When we notice judgment, we can choose compassion.
When fear arises, we can choose trust.
When pride is exposed, we can choose humility.
When we become aware of an old wound seeking expression, we can choose honesty rather than suppression, self-reflection rather than blame, and compassion rather than self-condemnation.
MEETING THE WOUND WITH LOVE
Nurturing our emerging nature also invites a gentler relationship with the wounded parts of ourselves.
When an old pattern arises, our first impulse may be to resist it, judge it, or wish it away. Yet these moments can become opportunities for deeper understanding.
Rather than condemning the wound, we can become curious about it. We can ask what fear, unmet need, belief, or past experience lies beneath the reaction. We can listen with compassion and a sincere desire to understand.
Sometimes this means simply sitting with what arises and gently asking, “Why?” Not to analyze or justify the behaviour, but to understand it. As we listen with love, we often discover that beneath our reactions are unmet needs, mistaken beliefs, fears, griefs, or experiences that have long been seeking acknowledgement.
As we learn to meet these wounded places with honesty and love, they often reveal the reasons they have existed for so long. In bringing conscious awareness and compassion to what was previously hidden, we create space for healing and transformation.
THE WOUND AS TEACHER
In this way, even our wounds can become teachers. They help reveal what is still seeking love, truth, and healing within us. As we respond with compassion rather than condemnation, we participate consciously in the transformation taking place within the soul.
These choices do not earn Divine Love, nor do they create the transformation themselves. Rather, they support and nurture what Divine Love is already accomplishing within the soul.
Like a gardener tending fertile soil, we create conditions that allow new growth to flourish.
CONCLUSION: THE JOURNEY OF AWAKENING
Nurturing our emerging nature, then, is not merely about correcting behaviour. It is about supporting the emergence of a new state of soul. It is about choosing honesty over denial, compassion over condemnation, and humility over self-judgment as Divine Love continues its work within us.
The path, therefore, is not a pursuit of endless bliss. It is a journey of becoming.
It is a gradual awakening to the truth of who we are, the recognition of what remains out of harmony, and a growing willingness to allow God’s Love to transform us from within.
The moments of bliss are precious gifts along the way. Yet perhaps the greater gift is the steady emergence of a new nature within the soul.
The wound may still be speaking, but increasingly it is met by a soul that has learned to listen with love.
As Divine Love changes the substance of the soul, and as we consciously choose to nurture what is loving, true, and harmonious, we move ever closer to our true inheritance: a soul united with the Love of God.
